Swap Shop Stories: ‘I’ve got someone to talk to’
Low Carbon Community Project volunteer shares her story of getting involved in the Swap Shop.
I came to EWfC for support during the pandemic. EWfC offered food support for me and my family, but also listened to my story and my experiences of being an asylum seeker & single mother, and the challenges this has brought me.
After speaking with the staff, they recognised how isolated and unsupported I felt and kindly offered to refer me to their counselling service.
I was also given the opportunity to work as a volunteer with their Swap Shop and later with their Food Support Service. This is something I do regularly as well as English language classes, this has helped me feel less isolated and more valued as an asylum seeker living in Glasgow.
